What Does Linke Mik Mean?
"Linke Mik" is a saying with a double-meaning. The phrase is an old dialect expression from the province of Limburg which was divided into modern-day Belgium and the Netherlands during the nineteenth century. The first definition is figurative: "Linke Mik" signifies something out of the ordinary; a situation slightly risqué yet unique, with a flavour of daring and bravado. In short, an adventure: the very ingredient that propels narratives and memories!
The second definition is cultural. In the tradition of Limburg, storytellers are known for their imaginative narratives that weave reality and fantasy into a "suspension of disbelief." Audiences usually participate in the ruse, by inventing their own tangents. A true Limburger can tell a story about anything and nothing; transforming the most ordinary into the unforgetable simply through the telling! Therefore, if it's really good, it's Linke Mik!
